Rex Proclamation Poster 2020

New Orleans Carnival season begins each year on King’s Day. A celebration is held at Gallier Hall where the King of Rex announces the official start of the festivities for the entire city. Molly McGuire was selected to create the Krewe of Rex’s official Proclamation Poster for this prestigious event. The Mayor of New Orleans, Latoya Cantrell, unveiled the poster to the world and then cut the first king cake of the season. Signed limited editions are available of Molly’s poster.

“Omens and Auguries.”

The cast of characters inhabiting this painting are comprised of the usual suspects… as far as omens go - black cats, a wise owl, the lone raven, a death’s head moth, and of course a bat. Overseeing this motley crew is a skeleton and moon, representing the unconscious mind as well as a powerful wizard with a flaming sun representing the conscious mind.

Our Augury is a gypsy fortune teller. While holding her crystal ball, this seer reveals a tarot card bearing a masked jester’s head - symbolizing carnival. According to the Tarot, this card is entitled “The Fool” which represents trust in the future, and beginner’s luck.

Reigning above all is the royal crown of the illustrious King of Rex. Behind this, a rainbow emerges from the storm cloud signaling a fresh start to this new decade. This sum of prophetic forces unite as one into the All-Seeing Eye to remind us: As Above, So Below and that Hindsight is always 2020.
